🎯
Outcomes in your first 3–6 months
  • Deliver data products and pipelines that meet team SLAs and quality standards
  • Contribute to the legacy migration with minimal disruption
  • Build credibility with the client team and help create shared context where it is missing

What you will do

  • Build and maintain data pipelines and data products within a value stream team
  • Work within a data mesh architecture and contribute to domain data ownership
  • Spot what's missing, whether that's a technical gap or missing shared context with the client, and follow through until it's resolved
  • Alternate between delivery-focused sprints and alignment-creating phases; both are expected and valued
  • Communicate blockers, risks, and technical decisions constructively to DataChef and client stakeholders

What you will bring

  • Strong Python: you write clean, maintainable code without prompting
  • Strong SQL: you reach for it when it fits the problem
  • Hands-on experience with IaC such as Terraform
  • Hands-on GCP experience: BigQuery, Dataflow, or comparable managed data services
  • Consulting mindset: you simplify complexity, ask the right questions, and diagnose root causes before jumping to solutions
  • Comfortable in ambiguity: equally at ease heads-down coding and in alignment conversations
  • You get things done; when something needs to ship, it ships

Nice to have

  • dbt experience
  • Experience with Airflow
  • Exposure to data mesh principles or domain-oriented data ownership
  • Experience in retail, e-commerce, or consumer goods data environments

Location and working model

You must be based in the Netherlands (no relocation support). Hybrid: typically 1–2 days per week on-site at the client location. Expect more on-site during workshops, go-lives, or high-alignment phases. If being on-site when the project demands it is not something you are willing to do, this role is not a fit. Client communication is in English; strong English proficiency is required.

Interview process

  1. Application review
  1. Cultural interview (30–45 min)
  1. Pair programming session (90 min with 1–2 DataChef engineers)
  1. Final decision and offer
No surprises. We move quickly when the fit is clear.

Benefits and time off

  • 25 paid vacation days per year (full-time, Dutch payroll; EoR employees receive the local statutory minimum, topped up to 25 days where applicable)
  • DataChef public holidays: New Year's Day, Easter (2 days), King's Day, Ascension Day, Pentecost (2 days), Christmas (2 days)
  • Reimbursement of home internet and commuting costs
  • Reimbursement of software licenses

  • Extended and fully paid maternity/paternity leave for the first nine weeks
  • Free 1Password family plan
